OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
SHARING GOOD NEWS & GREAT JOY
Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is a ministry of Samaritan's Purse. Members of First Baptist collect toys, clothing, school supplies, toiletries and empty shoeboxes all year long and organize them in the OCC room. In the fall, packing and wrapping parties are held to prepare the shoeboxes to be sent all over the world. Local churches in over 100 countries distribute the boxes to happy children. The boxes are filled with an assortment of gifts, but most importantly is The Greatest Gift book that they receive. Each child receives the book in their own language that tells the story of God's Word and Jesus. Then, they are invited to participate in a 12-lesson discipleship program called The Greatest Journey.
First Baptist is also a drop-off location for OCC. Individuals and groups throughout the community bring their gift-filled shoeboxes during the 3rd week of November for National Collection Week. From there, the boxes are sent to the local central drop-off location and then on to a national processing center. Each year, First Baptist members of all ages travel to the processing centers to volunteer time in the final stages of shipping
the boxes.
